I went to Nouveau Palais for brunch yesterday. As part of the Pop Montreal Festival, DJ Alex of the We Are Wolves and other special guests were playing there over weekend. Food and Music are my passion, so I had a great time.

Nouveau Palais is one of those eateries in the Mile End that I love to go. It’s a great unpretentious place for having some comfort food and good drinks. If you have never been there before, don’t expect any surprises. Its exterior looks as old as its interior. The clientele can be a bit too hipster sometimes, but the food is always worth it and prices are fair.

Food
For brunch, Nouveau Palais offers a very straight forward menu: eggs and bacon ($4.65), omelets ($8.65), pancakes ($8.65), yogurt & granola ($6.45). If you’re looking for something fun, ask for the lumberjack sandwich ($ 7.95), which is basically a pancake sandwich with eggs, bacon and, of course, maple syrup.

This time I was hungry enough to eat their Fried Chicken & Waffle ($13). I was not disappointed. Chicken was crispy and waffle was fluffy the way it should be. My hubby ordered the breakfast burger which was very tasty too.

Don’t waste the chance of having a classy mimosa to start the day. The one at Nouveau Palais is pretty decent and it will only cost you $6.

Service
Staff is usually friendly but this time service was a bit lacking. Our waitress took too long to refill our coffee and she wasn’t really in the mood for answering questions that morning.
