Brunch at SuWu

There has been a lot said about SuWu, this not-so-new bar in the corner of Prince Arthur and St. Laurent. Since it opened its doors back in March, SuWu has grabbed the local food bloggers’s attention thanks to its trendy vibe, unique décor and fun drinks. Last weekend, I decided to check out their brunch menu and I had a nice experience.

As I entered, I was pleasantly surprised by the décor. SuWu’s interior is very rustic with a hipster twist. Lots of cool antique detailing and vintage light bulbs. Not to mention the old school graffiti design in the counter. In a way, the atmosphere reminded me of Sparrow.

Menu

SuWu offers some fun and unexpected brunch options, like the Breakfast Nachos ($13) and the Avocado Baked Eggs ($11). Checking out the menu, I got automatically intrigued by the Fried Chicken French Toast ($12).

I’d never tried anything like this one before. A huge dish with three slices of French and three pieces of boneless fried chicken served along with blueberry sauce! It may sound weird at first, but it does not disappoint! Somehow the ingredients all worked together and formed a pretty unique taste.

My husband ordered had the Egg in a Basket ($13), basically a savoury bread pudding topped with mushrooms, bacon and eggs. Everything is served in a nice casserole along with some amazing hash browns. The dish was really tasty, well presented, and extremely satisfying.

Verdict

All in all, brunch at SuWu was fun! The staff was fast and friendly and food was good and affordable. So far, I really like the place. We showed up after 2pm though. I assume the service can be slower and less attentive during busy hours. Going back to try their night menu soon. Then, I’ll give my final verdict.
