Marché 27: Bar à Tartare

If you a raw meat fan like me, you should definitely check Marché 27. This place has a very interesting concept: it’s a tartare bar. I was really curious to try it since I first heard about it. Finally, I had the chance to stop by last week.

Ambience
Located on Prince Arthur St., in the heart of the lower Plateau, Marché 27 has a hip and trendy and atmosphere. I was surprised once I came in, because you can’t really tell it from the outside.

Food
Marché 27 offers a big selection of tartare. There are 10 different choices of meat and fish seasoned in 13 different styles. You can also choose between 100 grams or 150 grams servings. All possible combinations sounded delicious. Indeed, it was a tough decision. I wanted to try everything.

Finally, we picked the Salmon à l’ancienne and the Italian Duck tartare. Both dishes were great, made with quality ingredients and nicely served with thin bread toasts. The meat was especially fresh and flavourful. Although, I have to say that I’ve already had better tartare in Montreal.

For those who don’t like raw meat, there are some cooked options in the menu. There is also a 5-8pm $5 cocktail special. We were a bit disappointed with our drinks though.  I tried the Fancy and the Walk 27 and both were tasteless and too icy. Have Le Duo instead. At least, in this I could taste the whisky.

Service and Price
A lot of people complain about Marché 27 service. But maybe because we arrived early, the place was empty and we were quickly served. The bill can be a bit pricey, but that’s what we usually pay to eat tartare everywhere.

Food Truck
Marché 27 recently came up with a food truck called Route 27. I haven’t tried yet but I’m looking forward to seeing its street food menu. I wonder if prices are more affordable.
