TA stands for Tourtière Australienne. Yes, you got it right! We’re talking about meat pies. The specialties of this nice little eatery located at Park Avenue are authentic Australian and New Zealand meat and veggie pies. Toutière Australienne offers more than 15 choices of filling – from classic beef to lamb and curried vegetables with sweet potatoes. Everything is made from scratch with fresh ingredients. The result is outstanding. The pies are amazingly delicious and surprisingly affordable.
Last time I stopped by at TA by for a quick fix, I had the Chilli con Carne and the Butter Chicken pies. Both were incredibly good. But my favourite one is still the Steak Bacon & Cheese. This baby is filled with pure goodness. The pastry crust is perfectly crispy and the filling is juicy and full of tender chunks of steak. The Ned Kelly is another popular choice stuffed with beef, bacon, gravy and boiled egg. Sounds yummy!
One can choose between ready-to-eat pies or frozen ones in two sizes : mini or family formats. The individual pies run about $5-6 each and one would probably be enough to make a meal for a normal eater. But if you need some extra food, you can order the Big Stack and add a huge pile of mashed potatoes, mushy peas and gravy on top of your pie. I don’t regret it.
Don’t forget to try their scrumptious homemade desserts and Australians treats too. I recommend the Pavlova. It was devine!
TA’s location at Park Avenue is quite small. Definitely, that’s not the kind of place where you go with your friends. Unless you order your food to go and head with them to the Mont-Royal Park right at the corner for a picnic. Service is fast and friendly. Also, I heard that TA recently opened a second location at Monkland Avenue in NDG. I haven’t visited this one yet, but it’s already in my list!
